360 will not delete browser history

Norton 360 will not delete browser history on my HP pavilion dv7 running windows 7.  When scan is run it shows the history has been deleted and how much file space has been freed.  When you check the history it is still there.  On my Toshiba  laptop runnig vista with the same subscription it works fine.  Has anybody had this issue?   Please help.

Hi,

can you please give us the borwser's name and version you use?

Norton 360 by default only clears Internet Explorer's temp and history folder. But it can do the same for Firefox as well. The FF settings are in the Settings -> Administrative Tools section, the last ones on the list.

Other browsers (like Chrome) are not supported yet.

This is on explorer 8.   Same on Toshiba. When I run the scan on the Tshiba the box with the green bar comes up showing the history being deleted.  Just like if you deleted from the browser.   On the HP nothing comes up.  Also I am up to a class 2 supervisor at Norton and they can't figure it out.  What is blocking it?  Thanks for any ideas.

If you run a manual History clean up, does it works as it should?

Yes

Hi,

Norton 360 5.0 has just been released. You can get is as a free update from the Norton Update Center: www.norton.com/nuc

Can you plase install it, and check the same problem.

Did what you said. same thing don't work.  These error numbers came up during the upgrade, 8701 and 2355.  Everything seems ok except for the history deleteing.

You should try to reinstall the product with the Norton Removal Tool (it will clean out every previous mess ups):

You can leave out setp 2 as you have the downloaded installer.
Here are the steps:
1. Backup your Identity Safe data (Settings -> Identity Protection -> Backup)
2. Download latest Norton 360 installer:

- www.norton.com/n360p_5  Premier with 25GB Online Storage

- www.norton.com/n360sne_5  Standard Netbook Edition with 2GB Online Storage

- www.norton.com/n360pne_5  Premier Netbook Edition with 25GB Online Storage

- for other languages than English please go to the Norton Update Center: www.norton.com/nuc

3. Download Norton Removal Tool: www.norton.com/nrt
4. Disconnect from internet
5. Remove Norton 360 from Start Menu or from Control Panel -> Add or Remove programs
6. Reboot
7. Run the Norton Removal Tool, reboot (repeat it 2-3 times)
8. Install Norton 360
9. Reconnect to the internet
10. Activate Norton 360 v4 with the same key you have for the older version
11. Run Live Update until you get no new updates
12. Restore your Identity Safe data (Settings ->Identity Protection -> Restore)

You can check how the Norton Removal Tool works in this video.

Let us know the results.

I believe this was all done on remote when the level 2 supervisor tried to fix the issue.

Make sure that all other programs and Internet Explorer windows are closed. Run LiveUpdate repeatedly until you receive all the available updates, and then run history cleanup again. Let us know the results.

Yogesh

No luck same thing.  Norton shows it has deleted the browsing history and how much disk space was freed up.  When you check the history in the browser it is all still there.

Do you have the 64-bit or the 32-bit version of Windows 7 on the machine?

If 64-bit, which version of IE8 do you use, the 64- or the 32-bit?

64 bit bit windows 7.  How do you tell between 32 and 64 bit on IE8?

In the 64-bit IE8 there's no plugins (no flash, norton toolbar, etc.), as it is really badly supported by 3rd party addons.

I have the norton tool bar so I must have 32 bit.

Can you please try this?

1. Open IE, open its settings, and clean the History and every other temp files with it (do not keep any data)

2. Close IE

3. Open IE again, and visiti some sites (10-20)   /you can check here too, there should be no History data/

4. Close IE

5. Open Norton 360 and run a History cleanup

6. Close 360

7. Open IE and check now the History data

Let us know what happens.

Tried that.  No luck.

Do you have an administrator or a limited user account on the pc?
