Hello,
Receiving error 8921,250, proxy error, while trying to check for Live Updates, Internet connection is available, web pages are opened normally.
Norton Internet Security 2011 Build 18.1.
OS: Windows Vista Home Premium 32-bit
VerInfo: 6.0
ServicePack: 2.0
PC was member of a different network until last week, previous connection was using a proxy server.
The user entered his eMail Address in the Internet Explorer Proxy Settings and in Norton's Proxy Settings, now I removed both entries but Norton keeps following this route.
Already reset IE settings, ran NRT and rebooted the machine. Tried to turn off tamper protection and removed the content of the LUE\downloads folder.

Which file of Norton contains the proxy settings ?
if I rename this key .. HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings would he loose all settings for his current connections ? ...

hello floplot,
thank you for your answer, the kb shows only how to configure the settings for a http proxy, the thing is that the current connection doesn't go trough a proxy server but norton somehow still takes the route of the old proxy settings ( which actually is no proxy server, it's just an eMail address that the user entered, see the part of the live update log).
John
Hi dallas_maverick,
Your log shows Proxy Auto-detect enabled. Make sure that no boxes are checked in the Norton Network Proxy Settings configuration screen. I'd also try a reboot - couldn't hurt.
was able to fix the issue now, somehow Norton was still recognizing the last proxy server, even if auto search for settings was disabled.
the steps I went trough :
- inetcpl.cpl >> connections > LAN settings >> disabled auto search for settings, removed all hooks in this window
- Norton settings > Misc. Settings > Proxy settings >> disabled auto search for settings, removed all hooks in this window
- HKCU > software > microsoft > windows > current settings > IE > proxy enable DWORD was set to 0
- reboot
Norton was searching for live update server going trough old proxy server, ....
- Removal Tool
- reboot
- reinstalled 2011
- Live Update successful > asked for reboot
- All OK even after 2nd reboot
Please note that I followed the removal tool procedure before and it did not help, only after 2nd try.
Thanks for your help,
John
