Hi guys,
Average user here...I'm not big on committment and for the time I use my computer I am a basic user, just a gamer mainly...so I always rolled with free anti-viruses/trial periods. Just the essentials.
So I had a right-click problem after security updates closer to the beginning of the month. The problem would arise when I were to right click a program on my desktop, it would crash and restart Windows Explorer. Very annoying.
After pouring hours of research into it, I came across a program called ShellExView, and was able to disable and enable shell extensions manually. I fiddled with this, making sure not to disable system products and I kinda just chipped away at it, bit by bit. Oh, when I come across a problem with my PC by the way, I Rambo out on my computer and uninstall a bunch of things...sadly I had overlapping anti-viruses and Norton was one of them. I had NIS as part of this 30 day trial..I think it was 30 days. I uninstalled Trend, AVG and Malwarebytes at the same time and threw Avast! on...thinking I'll get around to taking Norton down later on.
Because I hardly use my computer for technical reasons, I only worked out my shell extension problem today and it was Norton alright (see image here of it disabled: http://puu.sh/10omX) and my right-click functions on my desktop/explorer are FINE. I then began the uninstalling process for Norton, and it hasn't wanted to budge one bit. The uninstaller is stuck on Initializing...please wait. I have tried the NRT, it did not recognise my version...said it had expired. Sent me to a Symantecs link who I believe produce Nortons software. I followed the instructions there, of COURSE my date and time are correct...and I removed all my temp files too, since they also advised that. Nothing helped, the Removal Tool STILL wouldn't help budge it whatsoever. If you wanted to know, my browser is Mozilla Firefox but I have no toolbar from Norton. I am stuck and have no clue what to do next, I don't want to restore my pc...help!
PS: I'm trying a safe boot right now to see if it'll uninstall in safe mode...but then I'm coming right back here and f5ing the hell out of this thread...hopefully I get a quick response!
Thanks in advance,
A frustrated Win7 user.
