Today I needed to enter a product key then activate N360 for a retiree client. For the first time, I was confronted with the compulsory auto renewal and demand for a credit card. This client did not have a credit card so I was embarrassed after selling N360 to her and me bragging about how good Norton is.
To continue I had to use MY credit card details, then switch off auto-renewal and then remove my card details. This anti-competitive behaviour is disgusting and breaches the privacy act in most countries.
Consequently I contacted state and federal consumer departments in Australia and was told this behaviour is indeed ILLEGAL. In Australia, in all aspects of sale of ALL products and services, ALL clients MUST be given the option to opt-in. It is ILLEGAL for clients to have to opt-out. Furthermore, the demand to store credit card details breaches the privacy act and data storage acts in most countries.
If Norton do not return to non-compulsory auto renewal, I will no longer sell Norton products nor will I use it myself. After 30 years of loyalty, I find this most disappointing.
I eagerly await a solution.
