ActiveX/Com Issue Norton Antivirus (Norton Internet Security)

The registry cleaner on my Piriform CCleaner shows the following ActiveX/Com issue with Norton Antivirus (I have Norton Internet Security 2012):

ActiveX/COM Issue InProcServer32\C:\Program Files\Norton AntiVirus\NAVPwd.dll HKCR\CLSID\{8B2285B0-3698-4674-AD35-15F5F74C1F07}

When I select "fix the issue", the registry cleaner deletes the registry value - stating that "these are often left behind after uninstalling software." Unfortunately, when I run a rescan with the registry cleaner, the ActiveX/Com Issue magically appears again (after being deleted).

Also Norton is not listed in the Downloaded Program Files (ActiveX) located in the Settings Section of Internet Explorer's Internet Properties. I am wondering if there is a problem with Norton Internet Security and Microsoft IE. To the best of my knowledge, I remember seeing Norton previously listed in the Downloaded Program Files but I can't be sure.

At any rate, Norton Identity Protection, Norton Toolbar and Norton Vulnerability Protection are all listed under Internet Add-ons in the Manage Add-ons section of Internet Explorer . Perhaps, I am just paranoid but I thought I'd ask if any of this sounds unusual - I am sure it must sound convoluted.

I also use Firefox and Chrome but haven't noticed anything odd there. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated!

Hi Muthglalka,

If you are not having any problems,  then you can ignore the entry and leave the registry alone.

Dave.

Hi Muthglalka,

The item is probaby reappearing because Norton Product Tamper Protection prevents its removal.  The reason for this is that registry keys and files belonging to Norton are important, and necessary for Norton to function.  You should not try to remove any registry keys or files that belong to Norton.  CCleaner is a good product but most techies would probably advise against any sort of registry cleaning except in specific cases where a particular issue might warrant it.  Even then, you need to be knowledgeable and selective about what you delete - you should not blindly allow a cleaner to remove items from the registry on its own.
