I have a notice appear on my screen today which I cannot remove, without clicking on it.
It says
Adaware Web Companion.
Important Security Update.
Can anyone suggest how to remove this please.
Many thanks
John
@johnhardy Adaware Web Companion is classified as a PUP, potentially unwanted program. Its NOT legit. First I would open the Task Manager with Ctrl+Alt+Del keys, open running processes and find that process in the list, terminate it. Next clear cookies and caches on ALL browsers you have installed on the device. Next download and run a full scan with Malwarebytes as it focuses on these issues more so than Norton does. Let us know your results when done.

Thanks for the very helpful answer
I have deleted and replaced Chrome.
I have also deleted Firefox. I could not find a way to delete Duck Duck
Regarding malaware bytes I have used their free version some time ago successfully but cannot seem to get the free version working now.
When I opened the Chrome Browser it showed “Threat detected from Avast”.
Are there any more suggestions please?
Many thanks
John
Try this link for Malwarebytes, you should get an instant download. Ignore what Chrome says, this is a legitimate link:
