Allow Acceptable Ads is listed on the main feature page at https://adblockplus.org/en/features and full guidelines are posted at https://adblockplus.org/en/acceptable-ads. I always have this feature disabled and it sounds like that configuration setting will still be honoured even after the program is expanded.
Adblock Plus is a great free program and if users aren't supporting them by making a voluntary donation then I can't blame them for looking for a new revenue stream. I'm not concerned about the expansion of their Acceptable Ads program as long users are able to disable the feature.
