realsched.exe is a program which schedules for manual update checks for Real Networks products. This is a non-essential process. Disabling or enabling this is down to user preference however disabling may prevent notification of updates.

Well, I still have the problem of being unable to turn on both my inbound and advanced firewall even though I attempted to use the fix problems button on Norton itself, and using the help and support option from the Norton options there did not aid in the problem. What could be wrong with the product?

Have you tried uninstalling Real player?

What happens when you click the Fix button? Do you see any error message?

A couple of questions

1 - What operating system are you using?

2 - Is your version of NIS the 15 day trial or have you registered this online.

If it is the 15 day trial it will stop working unless you register with the product ID.

How many days have you left on your subscription?

Ever since I ran a windows update yesterday, I've detected that my Norton Advanced Firewall and Inbound Firewall was turned off, and no matter how I tried to fix it, the firewalls could not be activated. I had to rely on my Windows Firewall to take care of the firewall problem. Could someone try to help me with this problem? Also, from the history page, I found that a program named realsched.exe was named by my NIS to be behaving suspiciously, and that some of my registry settings have been modified. Could this be the root of the problem?

For additional information, I purchased this software on the Norton online store along with Norton Systemworks Basic Edition 15 days ago. It seems to me that the trial for the systemworks has expired, so would it be possible that the systemworks had turned off the Advanced firewall?

Hello js,
(I'll give you an advice, but have in mind that I'm just a user, and I share this information from my personal experience)
My advice is to uninstall all Norton products from Add/Remove programs, you may need to restart your computer several times. Go to Add/Remove programs again, and check if LiveUpdate is still there, if it is, remove it and restart your PC again. Then:
 - Go to "My Computer" or "Computer", type %temp% in the adress bar, then click enter.
 - Delete any existing files from that folder.
 - Check the "Program Files" folder (for example C:\Program Files), delete all Norton related folders if any exist.
-  Then go to "Common Files" folder (C:\Program Files\Common Files) and delete the Symantec Shared folder.
1.Now install Norton SystemWorks Basic, restart your computer if needed, activate your product but do not run LiveUpdate.
2.Install Norton Internet Security, restart your PC if needed, activate your product, and run LiveUpdate. Restart you PC, run it again, to be sure that your protection and program files are up to date. After that, LiveUpdate will take care about all needed updates. No need to run it manually.
I don't use the Symantec Removal Tool, I prefer to manually remove Norton programs and temporary files. I don't know why :)

Strange that your Inbound only is turned off.

What you can do is launch the NIS Options and go to Personal Firewall.

Under Personal Firewall, you will see Advanced Settings.  There is a Reset Firewall option.  This will reset any configurations that occured.

Please let me know if this fixes your problem

Thanks

I've fixed this problem after I asked for technical support from Norton. According to the technician, it turned out that my software was corrupted.

And to reply to Urrell's question, I still have around 2 years of subscription left.
