Adware

Is Norton 360 becoming adware?

"Adware
Software that displays advertising content on your computer. Like its cousin spyware, some adware runs with your full knowledge and consent, some doesn't. More often an annoyance than a security risk, adware may also monitor browsing activities and relay that information to someone else over the Internet."

I just had a pop-up from Norton asking if I want to make Norton Safe Search my default search engine in Firefox.  The two options were "Yes" or "Not now".  Where are "NO" & "Never as again" options?

I have had "Special Offer Notification" setting disabled for a long time.  I do not want to see this pop-up again.

If I wanted to use Norton Safe Search I would.  I do not appreciate this intrusion in my browsing.

Symantec, are you listening?  :smileymad:

Welcome

Sorry to hear about the persistant problem

Have you tried the free version of malware bytes?

http://shop.malwarebytes.org/lpa/342/3/7268/index_b.html?_kk=malwarebytes%20anti-malware&_kt=f53b1b6b-b718-40d6-9cc0-1458525103f8&gclid=CM3dg_6v-agCFQli2godZBCySw

Use the free version so that there's no conflict with your Norton product.

Hope this helps

Thanks for a really quick reply I'll give it a shot

Same pop up.....Agree totally

I had the same in NIS 2012.

I have never seen the popup - but isn't Norton Safe Search in cahoots with ASK??  That makes me wonder if it is Norton that adds the adware.

Hi Yank,

Well it was a Norton pop-up.  Anyway I have solved that problem, just don't ask what I did, you may not like the answer.

Cheers,

Dave

Here's the pop up.

@Eric D  Thank you for those kind words. smiley

SoulAsylum, you are squared away.

This sounds like a 'feature' of the Norton Core Security Plus software you installed on your PC. Go to the main Norton page and click on Settings - Administrative Settings. Scroll down and turn of the setting for Special Offer Notification. That should stop the pop ups you are seeing.

I see SoulAsylum answered just before I did.

Christopher McGavin you can turn off most Norton advertisements in your product settings. Turn off "Special Offer Notifications". See the screenshot below for reference.

Cheers
