Amazon Refund Scam

I have Norton VPN on my computer, but I just now signed up for email scanning.  I didn't realize that was separate.  Someone hacked my Amazon account in that refund scam and stole my entire account.  My account no longer exists due to them taking it over.  However, they also hacked into my home email account and had set a 'forwarding' email to the scammer and any emails that came in to me from Amazon went to the hackers.  I found this out after the fact and changed my password and removed the auto forwarding.  If I have VPN, I thought this would prevent hackers from accessing my email on my computer, as well as not be able to log into my Amazon account.  Is there some kind of precautions I can set up so this doesn't happen in the future?  Thanks

The VPN is designed to disguise your network and encrypt your data being sent and received and this will prevent others from capturing any useful confidential info you send. But hackers have many other ways to get into your system and steal info.

I can advise you to create very strong and unique passwords for each site you use. Turn on any two factor authentication that is offered and use a good password manager like Norton Password Manager to help you easily store and use those passwords safely.

Protect your data physically even at home or at work and never click on any links sent via email or text that you are not 100% sure to be safe.
