Android Auto stops work if VPN is on. Not sure how to stop this happening.
Other vpn’s have google maps & android auto included in “tunneling”.
What vehicle do you drive? Have you checked on any forums for your vehicle to see if others are having the same difficulty?
What device and Android version are you using?
Is it a specific app that does not work or does Android Auto lose its connection to the vehicle?
Hello I am running Pixel 8 Android 14 talking to a Skoda Karoq. This is definitely a Norton issue. Wireless Android Auto gives an error message saying it is not supported if subject to a VPN. So this is a Norton issue as Norton should not put Android auto network data through a VPN.
Thanks
Martin
Here is a Techradar article on Android Auto being blocked by Google’s OS. https://www.techradar.com/pro/vpn/google-needs-to-stop-blocking-vpns-on-android-auto-heres-how-to-fix-it
Looking at the instructions near the end of the article there is an example of setting up Split Tunnel. I do not have a newer Android device that supports Android Auto so I will ask you to check the VPN settings in 360 on your device. On the VPN pages, tap on the Settings gear icon at the top right and tap on Spilt Tunnel. Does Android Auto show up in the list of apps like in the image from the link?
If not, then this would be a good suggestion to post in the Product Suggestions forum board.
hello, i have the same problem. In tuneling there is no android auto application. How can i solve it. Thanks
What you are seeing is normal because there is no Android Auto app. The feature is built into the Android OS. Other VPN’s may have included a way to exclude Android Auto, but if Norton’s VPN does not show Android Auto, the only thing I can suggest it posting in the Product Suggestions forum board as noted above.
UPDATE
I have since purchased an Android 14 phone and do see the Android Auto app listed in Android Settings > Apps. But that app does not show up in the Norton VPN Split Tunnel listings.
Again, please add your post to this Norton Product Suggestions thread. Permettre le split tunneling pour l'application Android auto sans fil
Looks like the problem is still there. Using a pixel 8 Pro and an AAwireless adaptor, when Norton VPN is on I cannot connect to the adaptor. The Android auto application doesn’t appear in the split tunnelling list, therefore I cannot exclude it from the VPN. Obviously if Norton doesn’t update the app I will have to go to use a different VPN.
Hi all,
I might have found a solution to this issue with Android Auto not working.
- Go into VPN Preferences.
- Set Auto Connect to ON
- Whilst in that setting go to Trusted Networks
- Start Android Auto (WiFi) - when the Wifi for the App starts it should be listed under “Current Network” - Click the plus sign to add it to Trusted Network.
- Restart Android Auto connection and it should now work OK. - well it has for me.
Don’t have the VPN switched on all the time as this is what appear to be stopping AA working - let the VPN run in Auto Connect - all other networks will switch on the VPN unless you add them to the trusted list.
Hope this helps.
