Android/PUP.Riskware.Batmob.z and Android/Trojan.Spy.Agent.ytb

My phone has a built-in software (impossible to install in a normal way) infected with Android/PUP.Riskware.Batmob.z and Android/Trojan.Spy.Agent.ytb (detected by Malwarebytes).

However, Norton does not even detect their presence, while I was hoping that it would be able to cure or at least block these apps. Would be great to fix, so the antivirus does not provide misleading information "No malware detected".

Please let us know how you make out.

It appears that these are "presents" from the manufacturer (LeEco).

The apps infected are YouTube and some weird AntBeyboard. Those were continuously installing (in the backgroundl without asking for any permission) some stuff on the phone and massively using the traffic, until I've put a firewall. The problem has been recognised by many owners of these "wonderful" devices, and typically the only solution offered is rooting.

Probably, a wise decision would be to contact the manufacturer (which I will do now), and then try other secutiry products.

Thanks again!

You say it is built in apps that got infected. Do you have any idea how the infection got on the phone if it is impossible to install in a normal way? What app do you think is infected?

Try other security products before you try rooting. Another product may be able to deal with the malware.

Just be careful if you do root the device. That can open you up for even more infections.

Thanks for the informative answer. Malwarebytes failed to delete those. Unfortunately, a brief search suggested that the only way to kill those is to get the phone rooted and delete the apps manually... Anyway, thanks again.

It looks like you have picked up a PUP, a Possibly Unwanted Program. While they are annoying, they do not cause damage to your system. Some people actually want the 'Features' offered by these programs. They are usually downloaded alongside a legitimate download when you do not uncheck the option for the additional download.

Norton products concentrate on malware that can damage your system, that is why some PUPs are not detected.

Was Malwarebytes not able to remove the infection it detected?
