Malwarebytes Premium v4.0.4 (Component Package 1.0.750) users with Win 10 v1909 might want to monitor chantal11's thread Windows 10 Version 1909 Unusable With MBAM 4.0 Enabled in the Malwarebytes for Windows forum...

I should also mention that a new Component Package v1.0.770 for Malwarebytes v4.0.4.49 was released some time around 04-Dec-2019 - see Maurice Naggar's post # 15 in chantal11's thread as well as images posted in follow-up replies. I don't know what bug fix(es) are included in Component Package v1.0.770 but it's either a minor update or still being throttled to a small percentage of users since Erix hasn't posted a change log in Announcing Malwarebytes 4.0 for Windows.

If you want to apply this update immediately, Malwarebytes employee LiquidTension's post # 12 in Version 4.0 - Updating Definitions has stated that both Settings | About | Check for Updates and Settings | General | Application Updates | Check for Updates will run a manual check for all update types [i.e., the main Malwarebytes product version, component package and database (malware definition) package] in MB v4.x.

No, Phishing Phryer, it's not just you. My last act of defiance was to download 4.0.4.49. Not so good.

><

Most likely very similar to the same OS 1909 18363.476  +MWB 4.0.4+ Norton 360 22.19.9.63.

MWB unregistered, Norton is the sole AV / Firewall. No other contentions.

><

Hi Imacri,

I have been using the MB's free version and I remain in Windows 1903, so I never experienced those issues, as expected. To me, the only nuisance is the triple-time it takes for a complete scan. In my system, the previous version of MB took just under 1 minute to complete a scan. Version 4.0.4 takes more than 3 minutes.

If this is the new normal, I think that MB may be losing just a bit of it previous luster... frown

Malwarebytes Premium v4.0.4 (Component Package 1.0.750) users with Win 10 v1909 might want to monitor chantal11's thread Windows 10 Version 1909 Unusable With MBAM 4.0 Enabled in the Malwarebytes for Windows forum.

This user reported that Malwarebytes v4.0.4 scans will not run to completion and system performance is seriously degraded (i.e., applications take several minutes to launch, their Firefox browser freezes, etc.).  The problem has apparently been narrowed down to the real-time Malware Protection module (the Web, Ransomware and Exploit Protection modules do not trigger the issue) and a clean reinstall of Malwarebytes v4.0.4 did not help.  Windows Defender is the only other AV installed on their system and they have confirmed that Settings | Security | Windows Security Center | Always Register Malwarebytes in the Windows Security Center is turned OFF (i.e., Windows Defender is their primary AV).

Chantal11 is using a French version of MB Premium v4.x but I've noticed a few other Win 10 v1909 users reporting similar performance problems after upgrading to MB Premium v4.x that couldn't be fixed by a clean reinstall.

Is anyone experiencing the same issue as described above (about three times longer to complete a scan)?

If not, I may try to remove completely and reinstall the software, just wanted to know if the problem is only with my system.

Thanks.

One question (or maybe just an observation...) for the consideration of the experts:

Is it just me or is the most recent version of MB 4.0.4.49 really much, much slower than the previous one? In my system (I'm still on the free version), it comes to almost 3 (three!) times slower! What gives?

Thanks in advance for your thoughts.

P.S. - I also encountered an unusual number of blocked-website cases, which had never happened before. Can these two situations (or either of them) be blamed for the alleged "beta" status of the new version too?

We have just released a new Component update for your product, version 4.0.4.49 v1.0.750.

As you know, if you don't want to wait, go right ahead and retrieve the update manually by clicking "Check for updates" under Application Updates in Settings > General.

AntiCorr3lation:

My question is, what, if any, comparability issues could arise from using both, at current rev on Win10?

https://community.norton.com/en/forums/multiple-antimalware-processes

Hi All,

I have a question. I have used MWB for a few years and am currently running 4.0.4. I am also running Norton 365 v 22.19.8.65. I must say that I am impressed by its level predictive analysis and heuristics. I have also run Norton AV (since 1992) / Symanec AV / EPP on all my machines. AFAIK the two programs coexist well.

My question is, what, if any, compatability issues could arise from using both, at current rev on Win10? I would love to do some research but I can't seem to find the time. There is the issue of having two real-time processes running concurrently, looking for the same things. It seems that it would point to efficiency of a single system, but with large memory availability, processor overhead and SSD, is it a problem at all?

Thanks in advance for any thoughts related to my post.

Yeah, I don't know whether Security Center toggle works, as intended.  Just that there is a toggle.

Indeed. I forgot to point that out in the earlier post.

Cheers

SoulAsylum:

With this release, Malwarebytes considers itself an antivirus replacement and will now register itself with the Windows Security settings as the primary antivirus solution on the computer.

Users who don't want the program to be registered as the primary security solution may disable it in the options under Security.

For MB4 going forward, a bit more similar to how we release Update packages, we should expect Component package updates to be more regular (and silent) as they will typically include granular protection functionality enhancements. This particular one (718) will only affect business environment messaging.

I just received Component Package Version 1.0.718.

SoulAsylum, if you use Norton you are a beta tester too.

Something else everyone should make themselves aware of:

New scanning engine, a new user interface, threat statistics and more. If you wish to upgrade to this new version you will need to download the installer directly from Malwarebytes site… With this release, Malwarebytes considers itself an antivirus replacement and will now register itself with the Windows Security settings as the primary antivirus solution on the computer.

A lot of people won't even see that little note before installing. Its also very much still a BETA in work. Think I will wait it out , see how the bug checks and memory issues get resolved.

Cheers

Malwarebytes employee LiquidTension   just posted in Version 4.0 - Updating Definitions that the "Check for Updates" link located at Settings | About | Version Information "will check for all update types (Malwarebytes version, component package and database package)."

That's a major change from MB v3.x, where the link on the main dashboard (in the lower right-hand panel at System | Updates) would only check for a new virus definition update (a.k.a. the Update package version / malware database).
