Another fake antivirus/scareware pushing scam is out and about, centered around the alleged 'nude Rihanna pictures'. Sunbelt blog already has a writeup, Google is on top of it too:
For Symantec, it seems a Sunday is a Sunday indeed, a day for rest.
I submitted the malware sample, Mediacodec_v3.7.exe, which installs Privacy Center, through every possible avenue - through the application, and directly to Symantec SecurityResponse.
I dare not test and execute the executable itself, to see if it would be detected by N 360, Norton products have failed me in that respect too many times. My bet is that it would be allowed. If someone has a virtual machine with N 360 installed, test it. :)
So, Symantec, prove to me and to all of us that you are on top of your game and that you provide first-class, not last class protection. Detect this in a couple of hours, NOT a couple of days.
