Anticyberbullying programs are getting a LOT more attention of late. No country is doing more to fight this issue and its companion, schoolyard bullying, than the United Kingdom. They have even declared this week to be AntiBullying Week.
Organizations such as the BBC, YouTube and DHL have put together a remarkable program to promote awareness and provide people with education about this issue. They even have a wearable bracelet carrying the message: BeatBullying!
We in the US have to get it in gear! Cyberbullying effects 43% of all teens each year! Ask your child if they have ever seen a nasty email or text message (as if anyone hasn't!) Talk about strategies for dealing with it if it happens to you. Make sure your child knows never to turn a received bullying message into an attack! It's so common for the victims of bullying to respond in kind, simply because no other coping skills are taught.
