The image of your specs seems to have a problem. Could you let us know this information? Also, do you have any other security software enabled on the system? Thanks!
Thanks for the reply. No, I am not using any other security software on my system. Sorry about the specs image. I will try again. Oh and I am using broadband internet connection as well.
Hi nyislander-
We are aware of this issue and are investigating solution options.
Thanks,

Heard that over 40% of ppl complaining about Norton performance issues have a 40 gb hard drive...
40gb hard drive generally means a lower end p4..hm.
Oh im sorry I just noticed the screenshot you posted…2.2 ghz processer.
Not a problem TechOutsider. Thanks Tony and Matt. I’m looking forward to a solution to this issue. I did notice that phishing protection updates and automatic live updates occur at different times. Automatic live updates always seem to update with very little CPU usage. Perhaps pushing phishing updates through automatic live update might make a difference. Just a thought.
Hi nyislander-
The actual data for antiphishing does currently arrive via LiveUpdate or automatic Live Update.
The phishing protection update is a second phase of performing the configuration update.
We are working on optimizations for this second phase that should improve performance - thank you for your patience.

Hi Matt Powers or any other Symatec employee who might be able to help. I was wondering about the status of a fix for this issue I wrote about about a month ago? It is affecting other people as well. Please see this post. Thanks.

Hello-
We have made optimizations for this specific problem and our internal tests have shown significantly reduced times of full CPU usage.
The optimizations will be included in an upcoming patch that contains various other issue fixes/improvements for the entire product.
Sorry I cannot say specifically the date for the patch release, but it is coming soon.
Thanks,

Thanks for that very quick reply Matt. I still have NIS2009 installed on a second machine in my home so I'l be able to tell when the patch is released. I did have to uninstall NIS 2009 from the machine I wrote about because I run quite a few meteorological programs on it that won't run with maxed out CPU usage for too long. I'm really looking forward for the patch/fix. Thanks again Matt.
Does the same thing with me but only lasts for about 50 seconds and has never caused anything to crash. I have a single core AMD 1.8 ghz Turion 64 processor. Nice to see a fix is coming.
Hi Matt. I got the patches on both of my computers now. The fix for this issue is way beyond what I was expecting. The difference is like day and night. The second phase of the antiphishing updates which used to take 1 minute 45 seconds to install with 100 % CPU usage, now takes only 13 seconds or less with very low CPU usage. The issue is totally fixed for me. Just wanted to thank you and Symantec so much before I go ahead and mark this thread solved.
Take care.
Billy
Yeah mine now take only 8-10 seconds as opposed to the 50 before. No failed updates either so far. Patch seems to have fixed all my problems.
