Any reason to ever delete quarantined items?

In an older post, Re: How to delete files from quarantine? (05-18-2010), the following reply was given to the question of how to delete quarantined items:

The items in Quarantine are back-up copies of the File(s) that Norton products removes, in case it is a False Positive, or your O.S. starts to act funny when a File is Removed.  If Removal was successful... then the File(s) is/are no longer on your system so, if you Remove the File from History, then that will be removing the back-up copy of the File(s).

In another thread, I see questions about how to delete quarantined files in bulk rather than one by one.

I have two questions:

  1. How is it possible to delete even a single quarantined item? Does Remove from the quarantine history delete the back-up file or just remove it from the list? Is there a difference between Remove and Delete? If so, how do you actually Delete a file backup?

  2. Is there any reason to ever Delete or Remove quarantined back-up files? Seems silly to be accumulating a larger and larger back-up file of dangerous files year after year and just let the back-ups sit there indefinitely. Would a periodic purge or the removal of specific quarantined items ever be useful or recommended?

Using Norton 360.
