I've downloaded an update to a GPS tracker program from AMOD Technology Co., Ltd.'s website (AGL3080 GPSTracker PC Software V1.4.02) located here http://module.amod.com.tw/Support/download.asp.
Norton Security Suite identifies the downloaded file - AmodGPSTrackerSetup_V1.4.02_2010_1103.rar - as a risk. Specifically, any attempts to extract the rar file results in the following report from Norton:
Activity
lpk.dll (Backdoor.Trojan) detected by Auto-Protect
Status
Blocked
Activity
Unauthorized access blocked (Access Process Data)
Status
Blocked
and the lpk.dll file is immediately deleted from the extracted files and folders.
I understand that lpk.dll is a Windows language pack dll and it's already installed in my Windows/System32 folder, though its size is about half of the lpk.dll coming from the Amod site. Too, it does appear that files labeled lpk.dll are widely identified as Trojans. I know that I can shutdown the anti-virus program and go ahead with the install, but I'm not really comfortable with that. I've communicated with AMOD about Norton's identification of the downloaded file as a risk and they assure me that files downloaded from their site are safe, but I'm still nervous.
Is there any way to resolve these sort of problems one way or the other?
