App Advisor not working in Google Play Store

Hello,

Last week I went to update my apps on my phone (I always do it manually) and noticed that the App Advisor notification did not pop up letting me know if an app update was safe or not.

I asked around to others who also have Norton 360 on their phone and they also said it is not working for them. (Mine is a blackberry keyone: Android 8.1.0, the other phones are Samsung and Motorola-not sure what system).

I checked my Google Play Store app and it is the latest version.

I noticed there was a recent post, from last month, that details the same problem, but there doesn't seem to be a solution as of yet. (I linked the post/thread below)

The version of Norton I have on my phone is: 5.62.0.230518009. The latest version at the Google Play Store is: 5.64.0.230629004, does that version have a fix for this problem?

Also, I noticed that the Norton app at the Google Play Store doesn't say Norton 360, it says Norton 360 Mobile Virus Scanner, I am assuming it is legit/same thing?

Thanks.

Glad the new version fixed the App Advisor for you.

The detailed info on each app is helpful but I was wondering how come Norton says certain apps have microphone, camera etc permissions on, but when I checked on my phone under App Permissions, I have turned off those permissions?

I believe Norton is telling you the permissions requested by an app. You still have the ability to override those permissions in the Android settings.

Hi Peter,

I finally got a Norton update on my phone, through Google Play and it was a different version than yours (5.67.0.230802003), but it seemed to have worked. So far, all my apps are scanning. With this new update, it seems to have updated the App Advisor part of the app, as now there is a different interface with more detail on each app, if it's safe or not, permissions etc.

Thanks Peter for all your help.

When you updated your apps, did you ensure that you updated all  apps. Sometimes an Android system app, or a manufacturer's app such as the default browser, needs updating to fix strange behaviours.

Was it just certain apps that would not get the notifications, or all apps?

I just tested on my Android 9 Samsung Tab A and found the App Advisor notifications not working. I checked the Play Store and there was an update available to the 360 app to version 5.66.0.230720002 and the notifications are working again. So check for the update to 360 and test again.

I tried going to App Settings and deleting the app data and cache, but App Advisor is still not scanning any of my apps in Google Play Store.

Try going into Android Settings - Apps. Scroll to the 360 app and clear the app cache and app Data. Restart the device. This will reset your 360 to a trial version. To get the full version back, open the 360 app, then tap Sign In to log into your Norton Account. Enter your Norton Account information and you should have the full version again.

Then test to see if things work properly.

Thanks Peter.

I updated Norton to the newest version, but it still does not work.

As there is a newer version of Norton Available, you should install that and test to see if the issue is resolved.

If not, post back here and we will look further.

And yes. The Norton 360 Mobile Virus Scanner is the latest name Norton has given their Android security product.
