Hi,
When I try to update Itunes, it responds by trying to install a new version of the "Apple Software Update". Unfortunately it fails every time because NIS is blocking it. Running XP sp3, compliant hw.
I believe this is the case because when I look at the NIS Computer Protection History I see the following entries directly and repeatedly corresponding to my update attempts:
"Unauthorized access blocked (Access Process Data)"
Severity is "Medium", Action is "Blocked"
The "Actor" listed under details is WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\MSIEXEC.EXE
I tried flipping all the NIS programs listed on the main window to OFF for 15 minutes and re-ran the apple install - same result. I tried to change the Windows settings for starting the NIS services to "manual" so I could reboot free of NIS but found that it is not possible to change from the "automatic" setting.
I really do need to update this software in order to update my iphone.
Any ideas out there short of uninstalling / re-installing Norton?
Is there a way to shut NIS off completely?
Any Apple people out there know how to get around this?
(Note - my searches for other posts showed only notes on whether this was an external threat. Did I miss something?)
