When I wake my Windows 10 computer from sleep I often see an "Application Error Norton security scan cannot launch because %ccroot% failed in initiation." I used the "Advanced Norton Uninstall" tool and reinstalled Norton Security Online from Xfinity/Comcast and all updates are current. Norton says my computer is protected with a green check mark and if I initiate a scan manually it works fine and does not initiate the application error, only see the error when waking from sleep? Any advice appreciated.
Hi jbeam1234.
I will let the Norton team know about the problem and see what they say. In the mean time, if you find any more information, let me know.

Hi.
I have something for you to check. This is just to try and narrow down the source of the error.
Try running "C:\Windows\System32\taskschd.msc" which is the Windows Task Scheduler. The applet's default view is somewhat unfriendly. Make the window full screen or resize it to the right. Maybe some of the Forum leaders could help.
On the applet's left side panel, select "Task Scheduler Library" light blue item in image. In the top right panel, look at each task in the list that belongs to Norton. See if the "last run time" is close to the the time you logged in and "last run result" is an error. If you see any result besides "The operation completed successfully (0x0)" it failed to do something. In particular, look at Norton WSC Integration task. Don't try running it.

Hi.
Thanks for responding.
Is it possible to capture the error dialog with <alt>+<print screen> and post the image up here?
I wonder if it comes from Windows and not Norton. From the message, it could be a badly written command line or Windows task failing to execute. This kind of error would usually be fixed after removing all traces of every Norton product ever installed on the PC. Seeing a screenshot of the error dialog might help determine the context it is being run from. The background task for quick scan works?
How long has this been happening? What build of NS are you currently using?
Thanks

Thank you T. McCormick,
Problem still persists. When I awaken my Windows 10 the message "Application Error Norton security scan cannot launch because %ccroot% failed in initiation" is usually in a box on the screen. As mentioned, used Norton's remove tool to clean up all remnants of the previous installation several times with reboots and clean installs. Norton says my computer is protected with a green checkmark.
Appreciate your offer of assistance.
Hi jbeam1234
I work for Symantec in STAR CRT. I am not on the Norton team, and I don't work in Support. STAR delivers the detection engines used by Norton.
I am sorry you are having problems with our software. If this error returns, please send me a private message. I would like to get more information about the problem you are reporting.
Thanks

Malwarebytes found no problems, thanks. Disabled fast startup but it is too soon to know if it solved the issue. I do not allow my computer to hibernate so I am not sure if fast startup was an issue. Will mark my problem solved unless the problem reappears. Again, thanks to all for the help.
Thank you, a reasonable suggestion but Norton Security Scan was not installed on my computer. Disabled "fast startup" from a previous suggestion which may have solved the problem but it will take a little time to know.
Check Windows Control Panel - Programs and look for Norton Security Scan as a separate entry from your Norton Security Online. If you find it, uninstall that. Norton Security Scan can get installed when you use the Norton Removal tool if you do not read all the dialog boxes carefully.
The search I did landed me here. DO NOT download any of the scanners offered on that site as they could cause other issues.
Improper system shutdowns, excessive hibernation and viral infection can cause errors and corruption in the dll file used. I would run Malwarebytes as a second check for an hidden infection on your system. Disable fast startup as suggested before, not allowing the system to sleep or hibernate as well. Check to see if the issue persists.
Cheers
Thanks, used the Norton removal tool for "remove only" and rebooted before installing to repair a subscription expired problem. Had Norton support accessing my computer for over 2 hours 2 days ago and everything finally updated and looked like it was working fine but I am now getting the "Application Error Norton security scan cannot launch because %ccroot% failed in initiation" even though manual scans are working fine. Any clue what %ccrot% is? Is it a registry item? Trying to avoid Norton support again because it takes so long to get to a real person.
Hello jbeam1234. Download and use the Norton removal tool from this link. Perform a REMOVE ONLY and reboot your machine. Once done you can then reinstall your X-finity suite.
FWIW!! I have never allowed any of my machines to sleep or hibernate due to the consistent issues it causes with file/software corruption over time. On Windows 8 and above it is also suggested to disable "fast startup" since it too can cause software installs and updates not to fully complete due to data not being 100% released from memory. Here is how to disable fast startup.
Cheers
