Appropriate DNS A Records and Site verification

We attempted to verify a domain for norton safe web where the following conditions existed.

Two A records existed for the domain pointing to the same IP address

i.e.

   domain.com
   www.domain.com

On the web server, a 302 redirect was in place for requests to domain.com  redirecting to    www.domain.com

such as if one typed  domain.com   in a browser, one would end up on    www.domain.com

The norton websafe account was setup as domain.com not www.domain.com and the domain would not get verified status until we actually removed the 302 redirect so that both www. and non www. domains delivered the same site.

Would we be better with alternate redirects or different DNS entries setup ?

What is the best way to manage this situation - i.e. in cases where the domain.com and the www.domain.com are the same site when required ?
