Are My Wireless Cameras a Security Risk?

I'm running the latest version of Norton 360 and believe that it protects my network. I recently installed two Foscam cameras to my secure (WPA2) wireless network in my house. The cameras work great but I'm concerned that they pose a security risk. Can someone shed some light? Are cameras a back door for hackers and how can I be sure that 360 is protecting me from instrusions. Do you have any tips to protect myself.

Thank you!

Welcome,

Consider those devices just like you would laptop computers that you are adding to your network. They need to be password protected and, if the camera allows, have a username assigned. Both should be unique to that device. Neither should be in use elsewhere on your network.

Once you get everything configured and working correctly you might consider turning off the broadcast mode of your router. This will limit the number of folks who 'drive by' can discover that you are running a wireless device. Wired cameras are a bit more secure but not always an option.

Keep us posted.

Thank you!. I've definitely taken their existence too lightly. I will make some changes.
