Have two questions, that I am having a problem with. I am running - Vista - NIS2009.
First: When I do a full system scan, I come up with the results and under Attention Required I have tracking cookies detected. I can click on the cookies and I may have for example 12 cookies. I want to remove 10 of these cookies but I want to keep two of them and place them in the ignore list. How can I single out the ones I want to keep and the ones I want removed. I can see how to do them all or none but not selective.
Second: Also with the above finds, the amount is not correct in how many it finds. It may say found three tracking cookies and it only shows two in the list after clicking on "Tracking Cookies". I did an export and here is what it says:
Unresolved Threats: Tracking Cookie Type: Anomaly Risk: Low (Low Stealth, Low Removal, Low Performance, Low Privacy) Categories: Cookie Status: Not Attempted ----------- 3 Tracking Cookies Cookie:John Doe@tvguide.com - No action taken Cookie:John Doe@sdc.tvguide.com - No action taken
Notice it says 3 Tracking Cookies, but it only shows 2. Is one of them hidden or does it just not show the correct amount.

Cookies are harmless. No reason to worry. This is why you have the option in Norton to turn off tracking cookie scan. Simply use CCleaner before you scan or epmty your browser.

And, I have to dis-agree that Tracking Cookies/Cookies are not harmless if an Internet Threat gets on to your computer, for obvious reasons; without an Intenet Threat, Cookies are harmless and Tracking Cookies are not so harmless. Having "said" that, some people may have Issues with Cookies/Tracking Cookies.
I noticed that no one is actually answering this, although you have been told to use another product.
I think Symantec should address this. Why can't we select tracking cookies we wish to keep? As for the count, is it possible to have two cookies under the same name?
I have noticed this too, the "3 tracking cookies found" but showing only 2. I wonder if that is because there are only two "types" and one has two entries? Like I get a lot of sportingnews24/7 tracking cookies. So maybe there are two of those but they show as one?
I know this sounds convoluted
I do notice that everytime I go out on the web, I get some. I get them from sportingnews.com, pointstreak.com, dallasstars.com etc
If tracking cookies were so harmful then how could a simple free program like CCleaner remove them. This is taking from Ad Aware site.
A tracking cookie is data stored on your computer in the form of a cookie and is shared between two or more websites to enable them to track your movements across the web. This will help them gather information about your interests and tailor special marketing for you and gather statistics when visiting their sites. While these tracking cookies are NOT in any way harmful for your computer you might feel they are an intrusion to your privacy. Ad-Aware supplies you with the ability to remove these tracking cookies if you wish to do so.
For Ad-Aware SE Plus and Ad-Aware SE Professional, Ad-Watch can be configured to block tracking cookies. In the Options screen in Ad-Watch check "Block tracking cookies" and Ad-Watch will block tracking cookies before entering your computer.
Tracking cookies track your web browsing habits. They can collect information about pages and advertisements you have seen or any other activity during browsing. Different websites can share tracking cookies, and each website with the same tracking cookie can read the information and write new information into it.
Websites that use tracking cookies continue to recreate cookies in your browser's cache each time you visit.
Normal cookies are used to remember the user whom is visiting the website in order to show the appropriate content. Without them, some websites would cease to function. If you use a password on a website, then the cookie is used to note that you have signed on.
In general, a tracking cookie is not dangerous. They may potentially infringe upon your privacy and may be removed. A tracking cookie cannot cause any system instability. Current versions of popular web browsers include options to empty the browser cache folder when the application is closed.
