Auto annual subscription should not be compu;lsory

I do not like submitting my credit card details to Norton for auto annual subscription.  So, I bought a copy of Norton 360 from a retail shop.  When I tried to activate my purchase, the activation process insisted that I had to register to annual subscription and submit my credit card details.  This just goes against my intention.  I called Norton Helpline.  The agent told me that I must register annual subscription first including providing credit card details; after that I can go back to my account to cancel the subscription.  Not doing so, I will not be able to activate the product though I already paid for the product.  I want Norton to remove this compulsory submitting credit card details process.  I'd like to hear a response from Norton.

FAQ: Norton subscription and renewal

I have already paid for Norton, why do I have to provide the payment information? ›

You purchased a recurring subscription that renews annually after the initial term. To be able to renew your subscription after the initial term, we need your payment information. The accepted payment methods* may vary depending on the country.

You won't be charged until the subscription term you already paid for comes to the end, and before billing, you receive a notification email to alert you about the upcoming subscription renewal and its price.

Is there anything I can do to skip this step of providing the payment information? ›

The subscription that you bought requires providing this information before activating it. Once activated, you can still log into your account and cancel the Subscription Renewal.

Just an added thought to the thread. Having to submit credit card information to activate a product already purchased is BS. No matter the rhyme or the reason. Why on earth would anyone have to give a company financial information just to activate an already purchased product, ONLY to be inconvenienced to remove it? The customer has the right to "renew" once that time approaches, not having it "automatically" renewed 45-60 days prior to the subscriptions expiration. Further inconvenienced, to have to deal with support for a refund in the event they no longer need or want the product. The reason for the CC requirements, in a nutshell? Its not about an improved user experience, that too is BS, its policy and marketing. A better customer experience is actually listening to your customers. Just my dime on the subject. You're side my vary.

I am not from Norton and I do agree with you in principle that requiring payment info is somewhat intrusive. However, you will find that many other antivirus software products like McFee and Bitdefender require this info also for auto renew. Seems to be the industry standard.

Quite simply I do as you have done and just activate the product and then sometime later go back and remove auto renew and remove payment info. It is a little tedious but worth the time since you might get stuck with paying next year for a product you no longer want.

I doubt if Norton will remove this restriction and even if they will answer your query here but I will stay tuned.
