Hi IncUser,
As a NIS 2006 user, you are eligible for a free update to NIS 2009.
Although the Quick Scan window does not automatically close in this version either, I think you will be amazed at the lighter system usage and enhanced detection features and performance.
You can confirm your eligibility and download NIS 2009 at the Norton Update Center here.
It's quite an advantage to be able to update to the latest Norton Product at no additional charge!
Thanks for your response. Question: Will NIS2009 allow you to turn off the notice that the scan completed? We still want the scan to run just not to tell us there were no issues found. Can NIS2009 do that?
Thanks for your time.
Hi IncUser,
If you initiate a manual Quick Scan, by default the window will remain upon completion of the scan. I am not aware of any method to automatically close that window upon completion.
When NIS 2009 runs a "short" background idle scan there is no window unless an issue is found.
When a full system idle scan runs in the background (generally on a weekly basis), I have received a window reporting completion of the scan even if no issues were found.
Unlike previous NIS versions, 2009 does a lot of work when your system is idle, including background scans. As soon as you perform an activity on your computer, Norton ceases these background activities.
Just like to point out that if you turn off an Idle Full System Scan, a Quick Scan will run when the computer becmes idle, which is 10minutes by De-fault. If you return to your computer and start using it, the Quick Scan will not stop until it has finished, un-like the Full System, which will stop when you start to use your P.C., which will Resume where is left off when the computer becomes idle again, even when you re-start of turn off your computer.
