Zombie problem.  Never heard that term used in this situation.  The solution worked!  Thank you!  :smileyvery-happy:

This is the second problem with my Norton 360, but this one is on my XP machine with SP3.

I've noticed that whenever I have the Auto Protect enabled, some programs will continue running (sometimes multiple times) when I look in the Processes of the Task Manager.  I have to manually stop the processes.  When Auto Protect is disabled, this problem does not occur.

Here's some of the programs that keep running, even though I've closed them:

- MS Outlook 2007

- Dreamweaver MX

- GiMP 2.4

- Firefox 3

- Internet Explorer 7 (less common, but I've seen it keep running)

- iTunes 7.7

- "svchost.exe" (ther are 8 of these running right now: 4 under the user "System," 2 under "Local Service," two under "Network Service")

This is not a complete list since I don't run every program every day, but this is a sample of ones I've noticed so far.  The Norton 360 2.0 system is up-to-date, too.

duuh! This is the zombie problem and there is a workaround. You can get the workaround and understand its consequences from message no 44 here.
