Auto-Protect Error on Mac OS 10.8.3

I discoved that auto-protect was turned off. I recently updated to OS X.8.3. When I attempted to turn auto-protection on, I received an error message: Norton AntiVirus Error  Norton AntiVirus Auto-protect cannot run with the 64 Bit Kernel, then re-enable Auto-Protect

Please advise

From the message, it sounds like you are using NAV 11.x, which is not compatible with 10.8.3.  You'll need to upgrade to NAV 12.

I have this problem happening to me as well.

I am using the latest software: Antivirus 12.4.1 (73), Norton Internet Security 5 - 5.4.1 (34), and  MAC OS X 10.8.3. Also, the Norton Internet Security says that my Max is not protected.

I thought that I had seen that this was a bug in the Norton Software and that it would be fixed in the latest software.

Thank you, Helen

Helen,

Can you elaborate on the exact message you're seeing?  I'd be surprised if it's mentioning the 64 bit kernel, since you are using 12.4.1, but I could be mistaken.

Thanks,

Lee

I was using the uninstall program in the Symantic Solutions folder, but apparently it left a few remnants.I have used Norton for at least 6 years.  I was still seaching and found the following in Nav 12 for Mac Woes by Lee_G:

    ftp://ftp.symantec.com/misc/tools/mactools/RemoveSymantecMacFiles.zip

I ran the snippet and then reinstalled NIS, and it works.

Thank you, Helen

OK, that would explain it, though I'm not sure why the uninstaller left some of the old version behind.  I'm glad you were able to get it working.
