Auto Protect Exclusions

I have an .exe file I have been using for over a year now and never had a problem using it with Norton's Product, however this morning I tried to use the .exe  file  and Norton's Internet Security 2014 auto protect blocks it saying it's a trogan. I have tried to put on my exlusion list and it will not let me? Help Please.

Welcome,

Before you exclude it I'd want to be sure that there really isn't a problem.

Has your program been updated lately? Is it possible that it has become infected? Have you run any other scans?

Thanks

no the program has not been updated, latley. No it has not become infected. I have talked with other Norton users and their Nortons is doing the same thing with this program. I have scanned it with a couple other Virus protection Programs and they say it is safe so I have switched to Avast and Now My progam runs fine, I'll be staying with Avast and not using Nortons again, Sure I'm out Money but I guess that is life.

Hi Tenna,

Does the program have a name?

I guess you did not submit it to Norton as a possible false positive?

Hopefully you totally removed Norton (to include running the Norton Removal Tool ) prior to installing Avast.

Hai Tenna,

Can you share with us the name of software?

If you are connected to internet, you can check its reputation and statistics by:

  1. Open NIS GUI(Main Window)
  2. Click 'Advanced' Tile
  3. Under 'Computer Protection' section select 'Norton Insight'
  4. Click on 'Check a specific file' link near 'Close' button
  5. Browse to your file executable location and select 'Open'
  6. This will open another window showing your files status in Norton Database

Alternatively,

You may rightclick on the particular executable file under question and the choose the option 'Norton File Insight'

Another way to analyse the file can be uploading it to Symantec/Norton as specified by yank in previous post.

Also you may upload it to www.virustotal.com where it will be scanned online by multiple AV scanners and its result will be displayed.

You may note that as yank said improper uninstallation of an AV or keeping 2 AVs simultaneously in realtime protection mode can cause problems in your system.
