Auto-Protect turns itself off

I just got a new laptop with Windows 64-bit Vista and Norton 9 installed with a 16-month subscription. Been using it about a month. Today about 30 minutes after I got online in a public spot, I receive the message in my taskbar that my computer is at risk - it seems that the Auto-Protect feature has just turned itself off.

Now when I open Norton, the Computer is "at risk" and the Virus Protection is "at risk." A "Fix It" button came up, but when I clicked it it disappeared and nothing happened. The "Scan Now" link in the left panel is disabled, and when I click on Options at the lower left, the Norton AntiVirus link is disabled. Normallly I would be able to get in there and turn it back on. Similarly, the tab for Norton Antivirus shows that all of the options are disabled - I can't click on Tasks and Scans, Settings, or Reports and Statistics.

It correctly reports that I have 448 days remaining in the subscription, and when I click the Subscription link at the bottom left, it finds my current subscription. I ran LiveUpdate, and that finished by saying I was already up to date.

Has anyone had this happen to them? Any ideas on how to fix it? I haven't tried restarting the computer or reinstalling, which I'd rather not do.
