One of them is a no-DVD crack. the others are all patches. Totally legit those ones are.

Well I use No Cd cracks for my games so I do not have to put the CD in anymore. Those I get from Megagames and they are legit. NO FP with any other av scanner either. Care to discribe what Norton finds as a FP? What are these patches for?

i enjoy how you are very coy with the files/programs that are causing these "false postives" - while you may be legit, your unwqillingness to share the files info/the detection info/ANY INFO seems a bit fishy. Please share this info, or please stop wasting so much time complaning.

Thank you Tycho. My thoughts exactly. There are cracks and keygens. But there are also cracks that come in the form of a patch. Apply the patch and now you have the full version. I know all about keygens and cracks. I know hundreds of sites. Along time ago I ran a patch for NOD32 and then did a complete full indepth scan with NOD32 and guess what. It found the patch and quartined it. Cracks, patches and keygens only work for a short time till its black listed. So Moddtaco care to share what these programs are that Norton finds to be trojans?

Second of all no one asked what the files were. And speaking of unwillingnes NO one has bothered to answer the question. (Its now posted below at the bottom)

Here they are.

Mercenaries 2 no DVD crack. (Reloaded)

AssassinsCreed patch

wda1320_drivers_130

Geforce override patch'

sid miers Civ 3 map editor patch

ntoskrnl patch (This I can see. Its a hack file)

XBMC Install file

ferrari_mod (for NFS MW)

ArayScanner setup files. (Of all things)

I work hard to pay for all my games and windows and AV. I've ONLY had problems with this Norton crap. All in all I DO like Norton 2009. Its faster and takes less resorses then before. (That sweet). But not being able to control it is a piss off.

Floating_Red somewhat answered it. Same with Tech0utsider. But not fully.

Can I use Norton 2009 in Manual mode or is everthing automatic?

And I thank all the polite people for helping out so far.

And thank you Tony_Weiss for deleting some of my sentences. Now people wont knowwhat I was saying.. but thats the point think. Protect your self.

I am a gamer and built my gaming machine. I play mainly on my XBOX 360 now but I have AssassinsCreed patch and no FP. I also am using the latest drivers form Nvidia. Most mods such as your ferrai mod will come up as bad programs cause the over right some original files. A mod for is not a legit program so don’t blame Norton for that. Where did you get the No DVD crack from? No DVD cracks are also not legit programs.Your expecting Norton to know that a crack for a game and a mod for a  game are legit programs. That absurd. Now if Norton found CCleaner a trojan or Firefox a trojan that’s a false positive. If Norton found iTunes or Winamp a trojan that’s a false positive. I have about 100 games installed on my pc and Norton does not give me 1 fp and I have Heuristics on aggressive.

So what your saying is Norton is not to blame for anything. I know these are NOT harmfull. And I am expecting Norton to know that a crack for a game and a mod for a  game are legit programs. Kasperky knows. ESET knows. So its not very absurd now is it. Well maby for Norton. And im not saying Norton always gives out FP but it sure as hell is now.

Oh and last time I checked a FP was when the AV thinks a file is a virus when its not. THATS a FP. I understand your a Norton fan-boy but you need to understand that Norton is not even close to being perfect. ESET is pretty damb close. As I said before the ONLY reason im here on this "forum" is because I now own a copy of this Norton IS 2009. If I did not pay for it I would have uninstalled it a long time ago and not have bothered to post on these forums.

Also I too am a gamer and have built my gaming machine. And the Mod is Legit. Plus you STILL have not bothered to answer the question. Is it really that hard to get an answer out of anyone?

What answer are you looking for? I am not a Norton fan boy. I hated Norton for years til I tried NIS 2009. In the past I used Avira,NOD32,KAV,Avast. BTW NOD32 has very low scores now a  days. Head on over to AV Comparatives and you will see who is on top.

Have you ever stopped to think that maybe KAV and NOD32 should also find what Norton finds. mods and cracks are not legit programs so maybe you should be questioning why KAV and NOD do not find them but Norton does. Maybe its time to look on the opposite end of the spectrum. NOD32 has gone down hill and that is one of the reasons I stopped using it. Check out the video review.

I was wondering that too... Looking at the hole spectrum however those files have NEVER done any harm.

Looking up AVcomp now.

The question always has been

Can I use Norton 2009 in Manual mode or is everthing automatic?

There is no manual mode. Simply look through all the settings if its not there then no. And its there so no.

THANK YOU!!!!! Kudos man. That is the ONLY thing I wanted to know.

I see on AVcomp that Norton bombed the proactive test but had Very few FP. Thats good. And I also see that they used v15. So we can't use that data. The  On-demand comparative results show AntiVir Premium and AntiVirusKit (AVK) crushing all in normal settings. Norton placed third I belive but First Overall when on Full scan with few FP. So yes the numbers show that Norton is doing well THIS month. The On-demand comparative is useable because they used Norton AV v16. These tests however only show up to July 2008. This is after all October. I launched these files against Nortons wishs. If they were truly viruses (In anyway) then Norton will detect them in the scan I am performing right now. (They should at least).

Here are two things I'd like to see in a Norton IS update.

Manual mode (For daring PC users)

A Percentage Done notice in the scanner.

Did you the the most recent AV Compartivies? Its a PDF file and Norton 2009 got a 99% score. Pasts tests dont matter.

It's the same one as the online one. The 99% is for both sets of malware with the Scan set to the highest settings. Also these tests are for Known viruses. not unknown or new sets of malware. We have to wait untill November for that.

Overall Symantec still rings in at third. For these tests. Which is better then Kas 8 or ESET 3. I think that was the point you were making?

Sorry I didn’t disipher it. As I had said in a preivous post you somewhat answered it but no one gave a direct answer.

Please remember that unless a poster has the name in red we are all users just like you and we don't know everything about the programs we use. Speaking personally, I often have to search through the settings for a program or search the HELP (which is good on NIS2009 in my experience) to see if we can find the answer.

I never said you all had the answers. I just wanted help. Case closed.
