Autofix cannot repair installation

Hi everyone,

I use NIS 20.2.1.22, and have just run Autofix to make sure there were no problems (this morning it automatically alerted there was Error 8506, 421 solved with reboot), and now it says that

"It has not been possible to fix 1 element"

I opened (clicked) the Web Support Page, and it said  "Your Norton Product installation failed to complete" and that I should run Norton Remove & Reinstall tool to fix my NIS installation - but my NIS installation took place successfully about a month ago !

I have searched in this Board and it seems that a similar problem already occurred in September 2011 - it was a bug in NIS 2012 which was fixed via Live Update. Here is the link:

http://community.norton.com/t5/Norton-Internet-Security-Norton/NIS-2012-Autofix-can-t-repair-installation/m-p/547562#M175438

So,  I wonder whether I really have to proceed with the uninstallation/reinstallation or is it a bug also this time ?

Note that my NIS is all green checkmarked !

Anyone else having this problem ?

Thanks in advance for your suggestions.

Hi,
It is possible that a bit or a byte got misplaced during a recent update and the auto fix feature isn't quite smart enough to repair the problem. Running Norton Remove and Reinstall Tool will clean up any trash that might be hiding in  the corners and download a clean copy to your system. Be sure to run live update adn reboot as recommended, and one more time after the program tells you that all of the updates have been downloaded and installed.

Keep us posted

Hi Dick,

Thanks for your prompt reply.

Have downoaded the NRnR but since I never used it, I don't know  if before running it I can disconnect from the Internet  - as I usually do with a clean install,  running the Uninstaller and the Installer separately, and reconnnecting to the Internet at the end, to run LiveUpdates (learnt this procedure, also this, here in the very helpful Forums) - or do I have to run it remaining connected to the Internet, in which case wouldn't it be rather dangerous ?

Thanks for your help.

RnR needs a network connection since as part of the process it will pull down the latest version of the product.

Hi Dick and bkennedy,

Done !  I ran the NRnR tool with network connection, and the issue with Autofix is gone :smileyvery-happy:

Thanks and kudos to both of you for your helpful suggestions.
