I can not figure out how to use norton back up. I have needed it twice, but unable to use. Where could I find a step by step guide. I tried the dialog box, with entering back. would not work. So any help would be appreciated. Thank You
I believe you do need Norton installed to see the Norton Backup Drive. It is created when you install Norton. But that will now allow you to see older backup sets from other devices that are in your Account.
On your PC, using a Windows admin account, open Windows Explorer. If you don't know how to do this, search online for these terms: windows explorer admin mode. Using Windows Explorer, locate the area new object in the left pane entitled: "Norton Backup Drive." Double click in the left pane on this object. It will bring up any online backups, but it may also display backups on an external drive. This can take time to populate, so be patient. If the external drive backups are listed, you will be able to browse them and delete, preview, or restore them as necessary.
I could include extra information to prompt the user to search for additional terms. But generally I have found the users usually do know those terms. The few that do not understand usually post back, as you did, for some additional information.
In case you are saving this for later, the information you posted notes the Norton Backup Drive is in the left pane. The Norton Backup Drive is located in the Right pane.
Norton provides the Norton Backup Drive in your Windows Explorer after you configure your backup. Norton Backup Drive contains a list of backup destinations where your files are backed up. Each backup destination contains the backup sets to which the backup destination is configured.
You can use the Norton Backup Drive to view the files that are backed up. You can view the Norton Backup Drive after you configure backup.
If you backed up your files to a media device, ensure that the device is connected to your PC and turned on. You can then view the files on the Norton Backup Drive.
If you backed up your files to Secure Cloud Storage, you must be connected to the Internet. You must also be signed in to your account to view the files on the Norton Backup Drive.
You can also preview files you have backed in the Norton Backup Drive. To preview, right-click a file in the Norton Backup Drive and select Preview from the drop-down list.
To view the files in your cloud backup, you must set the Network Cost Awareness option in the Firewall Settings window to No Limit.

VIEW BACKUP FILES ON THE NORTON BACKUP DRIVE
In Windows Explorer, click Norton Backup Drive.
Select the backup destination and navigate to the backup set that contains the files that you backed up.
I stumbled across what you referenced. The trick is not to go to my "Red_Source1 S:" as I have always done, but to look for something I never saw before that is entitled: "Norton Backup Drive." Since I never knew it existed, I didn't try to look for it. When you said Norton backup drive I thought you were referencing my "Red_Source1 S:" because "Red_Source1 S" is indeed my Norton backup drive (I didn't realize you were giving me a formal proper name, rather than just a description of the drive.
I don't want to delete all of Norton apps from my computer to verify this, but it still looks like you must have Norton installed on the computer because:
1) The drives are marked "Norton Backup Drive" with the Norton icon on it. Is this created by Norton or by MS Windows? My drive is called: "Red_Source1 S:" and that is what MS Windows knows it as. Apparently, Norton knows it as: "Norton Backup Drive."
2) When I open it, it only restores the file, it doesn't give me read access.
Yes, it's in a user-readable format with standard subdirectories and file names. Thanks.
A better way to phrase the instructions, so that end users can fully understand, would be:
On your PC, using a Windows admin account, open Windows Explorer. If you don't know how to do this, search online for these terms: windows explorer admin mode. Using Windows Explorer, locate the area new object in the left pane entitled: "Norton Backup Drive." Double click in the left pane on this object. If the external drive backups are listed, you will be able to browse them and delete, preview, or restore them as necessary.
I opened drive_S with admin privileges and it shows the same thing. The drive, weirdly named folders, and the weirdly named files inside the folders. I wanted to see the files with the original names so that I can copy them over without the help of Norton Backup. Is that possible?

Here are the instructions I was following from your link:
"Using a Windows admin account, open Windows Explorer. Click on this PC in the left pane, and then double click on Norton Backup Drive in the right pane. I know this will bring up any online backups, but it may also display backups on an external drive. This can take time to populate, so be patient. If the external drive backups are listed, you will be able to browse them and delete them as necessary."
