Hi,

The green back up ticks have gone from my backed up itmes, they were previously there. I have tried the checking and un checking the overlays but this has not worked.

Can anyone help?

I am running Vista 32 bit Home Premium.

Hi,

That is the version.

6.2.1.5

Click on Support -Get Support to run Autofix. This will check your installation and fix what it finds. Have you run LiveUpdate manually, rebooting as necessary, until no updates are available?

I have ran the auto fix, ran live update manually, no updates.

When I back up, the green ticks that were there previously are not there anymore.

Have you checked the integrity of your backups? Try to restore some files that no longer show the green tick.

Do you see the Backup Status Overlays on any of your files? Are they totally gone, or do they just missing from some of your backup files?

Hi,

it seems that the files are backing up ok but I have no way of identifying what has been backed up and what has not.

I'm not sure if this can fix the issue, but you can try to rebuild the Windows icon cache: http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/49819-icon-cache-rebuild.html

Maybe this can help...

Let us know the results.

Afraid not.

I am running Windows Vista Home 32 bit.

They green ticks were there previously but are not there now and I have not changed anything.

Have you checked in settings to see if the overlays are enabled? It is possible that some update may have disabled this feature.

Hi bonbon1,

I have discovered if you select (or unselect) Backup overlays in settings and then go to pictures to see if the green checks appear or disappear, the page must be refreshed in order for the checks to appear or be removed.

In the following example I have started with no checks and then went to Backup overlays and enabled it.  I then went to my pictures and had what is shown below:

No green checks.png

I then refreshed the page (red circle) and got the following:

Refreshed green checks.png

That is the only way I found to be able to have the Backup overlays enabled and not have any green checks.

I'm not saying this is any help - but the only way I could duplicate it.

Hi,

thnks for the help so far however still not working.

I have checked the overlays,, I have un checked the overlays, I have unchecked restarted then cheed agin etc etc but still no luck :)

the main reason for me wanting this is because I previously lost some files because I thought they had been backed up and they had not, so it is a great indicator.

Any help in resolving would be very much appreciated.

Hi bonbon1,

It appears it is time to attempt a run of the Remove and reinstall Tool.  It is located here:

https://www-secure.symantec.com/norton-support/jsp/help-solutions.jsp?lg=english&ct=united+states&docid=20110217171332EN&product=home&version=1&pvid=f-home

This tool will remove your old installaton and reinstall the most recent version of your product that is on the download page.

Plese read the Before you begin at the start of the link.

It should leave your settings and ID Safe Data in tact - however we always suggest your backup/export your ID Safe data prior to runing the tool as a precation.

If the tool fails or doesn't correct the situation, please see the Go There Now towards the bottom of the page.

Please keep us posted.

The reinstall worked fine but the green ticks indicating a file has been backed up did not appear.

I inspected the ShellIconOverlayIdentifiers registry key which is located at:   HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SOFTWARE \ Microsoft \ Windows \ CurrentVersion \ explorer \ Shell IconOverlayIdentifiers

(Note that the Icon Overlay handlers are registered under the ShellIconOverlayIdentifiers registry key.)

 It showed the following GUIDs registered under it.

Subkey : EnhancedStorageShell

GUID   : {D9144DCD-E998-4ECA-AB6A-DCD83CCBA16D}

Subkey : OverlayExcluded

GUID   : {4433A54A-1AC8-432F-90FC-85F045CF383C}

Subkey : OverlayPending

GUID  : {F17C0B1E-EF8E-4AD4-8E1B-7D7E8CB23225}

Subkey : OverlayProtected

GUID   : {476D0EA3-80F9-48B5-B70B-05E677C9C148}

Subkey : SharingPrivate

GUID   : {0824EE6-92F0-47f2-9FC9-929BAAE7235}

I am not sure how comfortable you are working in the registry, if in fact you have worked there before. So a few pointers:

Before you do anything (even peek in the registry)  I suggest you download and install  ERUNT from here:

http://www.larshederer.homepage.t-online.de/erunt/

This is a program that will backup your registry so that if anything goes wrong, you can restore the registry to the status it was in when you started.

Once insatlled, I recommend a right click on the program and select run as administrator in order to permit it to backup the registry.

You can then click on Start > Run and type regedit into the block and select OK - this will open up the registry.

You can then navigate to the ShellIconOverlayIdentifiers Key as shown at the beginning of this post.

I would suggest you just navigate to that key and inspect it for the info included in it and then come back here and let us know what you have in that key.

BTW - have you run any regisrty cleaners/ CCCleanup or something similar lately?  If so let us now which program you used.

Hi,

Thanks for the reply, this is what is there.

Thanks for the feedback.

I tried to do some quick research this afternoon and found the following thread for mising icons in Mozy (another backup program) but a very similar situation.  Right down to the Subkey names: See hokiinidaho's post on the second page of the thread listed below.

I am not sure this will help you - but it appears that dropbox may be causing the problem (although you said it started prior) :smileysurprised:

Please keep us posted and hopefully someone will come along and can help beyond this - or have another idea in case I'm out in left field on this one.

Thank you very much.

I have no idea how it work because I only recently installed Drop box and they were missing prior to that but it has worked after I deleted the 3 dropbox 'files'.

One last question :) will my dropbox still work without these 3 'files'?

You are most welcome and I am glad you got it sorted.

aAs far as dropbox goes - I have no knowledge of how it works, but you might be able to get your question answered on their forum here:
