Bank of America "dissing" my internet security?

Hello All,

I was checking my account on-line at Bank of Americam (BoA) and when I clicked the little boxed "C" to clear the item as "paid" or whatever it went to the "R" icon. When I went back a few days later the items I had checked previously were now unchecked. I repeated the process and still the items come back as unchecked. Curiously the automatic transfers, a lone negotiated check or monry transfer remained as resolved. I contacted BoA and a supervisor suggested that my internet security (Norton: NIS, Version 20.2.0.19) is not enough protection and the bank computers won't leave my little boxes as resolved. The guy suggested that I get Google Chrome. Can anyone help me with this? This unimportant problem did not exist prior to 2 months ago, October'ish all was fine.

Hi lesorcan,

The issue of the site not remembering your changes could be on their end or yours, but it would have nothing to do with the particular browser or security program you are using.  It might be an issue with cookies, so make sure that all Bank of America cookies are allowed in your browser and that you don't use any system utility that might remove them.  Also, if you use Firefox with NoScript, be sure to try allowing some of the other domains because some ot the BofA site functionality is dependent on third-party content.  If only some of the changed entries are reverting back to "C," while other changes of status that you make are sticking, I would suspect something on the bank's end.  But in any event, everything the bank rep said regarding Norton and Chrome is nonsense.

Rick,

I have OnLine Banking with BoA (Florida) and I never realized those icons were changeable.

I've just changed a [C] on a check of mine to [R] for Reconciled and it persisted through logging off and back on again. I'll leave it and check it out for a few days.

I'm using Norton Internet Security 2012 /  V19 on Windows 7 Home Premium 32 bit with Interneet Explorer 9 ....

I think the Bank reaction is in easy out and I have to say that on the rare occasions that I have tried to deal with their Phone or Online Support for OnLine Banking I found them totally ill-informed on how their own system worked (or did not) ....

I can't see any reason that Norton or any other security system should have any effect on changes within the bank's own system. I'm sorry I can't check this out with your V20 / 2013 version of NIS but I'm still sticking with 2012 on the PC that I deal with OnLine Banking.

Ha!  Me neither!  (Now give me some time to figure out why I would want to change a "C" to an "R.")  :smileyhappy:

If all else fails, read the HELP file <gdr> But note that their Search did not work and gave me 404s for every attempt but the tabular links work ....

Apparently to jog your memory that you have Reconciled that online entry with your checkbook (who uses checks?) ....

Hi Hugh,

Yes, the BofA site search was 404'ing me too.  I finally Googled "Bank of America how do I reconsile transactions" and found the Help page.  So I know what the feature does - I just can't think of any time that I would ever have had a need for it.

The 404 errors must be Norton's fault too.  :smileyvery-happy:

Wow! Now I have to say BoA comes up with some good ones, but this is the best! I've been with BoA you might say from the beginning of time (early 1970's) when it was a good bank. Due to the fact that I have my mortgage and business with BoA I'll be with them for longer than I want to be. I'm in the process of transferring to the Navy Federal Credit Union where you are treated human. I haven't used the "C" / "R" function for many years. I did use it when writing checks. Last night after reading this post I checked a few of the "C" boxes and changed them to "R". This morning I checked my account and they were changed back to "C". The computer I was using was running a different security software and not running Norton. BoA has been doing a lot of changes to their website, but to blame this problem on Norton looks like BoA is living up to their standards, Oh it's not us blame the other guy. Good Luck at Bank of America! LOL

I just rechecked my BoA account and the [R] flag is still there overnight ....

Which NIS are others using?
