Best Procedure for Buying NS and Adding Current Subscription Days?

I had the misfortune of buying a 1 year license to NIS 2014 two days before NS release date and what appeared to be the "no-free-upgrade" policy was announced.

First: Is there any official statement guaranteeing that If I purchase NS that the remaining days of my NIS license will be added on to my new NS subscription?? (and if not, why not?)

Do I buy NS and then call customer service and ask/plead/request them to add my remaining NIS license days on to my NS sub?

Do I call customer service and tell them I am going to buy NS and ask them to add my remaining NIS days onto my NS sub?

Can I buy NS while on the phone with a customer service rep. who will then without question add my remaining NIS Sub days to my new NS subscription?

Why do I even have to ask these questions ?

It appears that different posters have had differing experiences respecting this issue. It does appear that at least a portion of the remaining current license will eventually be added, but some report having to make more than one call to customer service, some have had to wait 24 hours for a call back, and some appear to have had only a portion of their remaining days added.

Why the need for this inconvenient, inconsistent approach to the issue by Norton?
