As of late upon opening Norton Privacy Browser I would get a popup that stated "upable to do an update reinstall Norton Privacy Browser", I was not able to do that so I did a Norton chat and a technician and he proceeded to do the reinstall. BUT - -- - when he did the reinstall I lost all of my favorites bar AND my bookmarks!!! And there was NO WAY to retrieve them. I had booked two summer vacations and had all of the web site information in my bookmarks and it is now ALL GONE!! To say I am livid is an understatement. I even talked to supervisor and all they could say was "sorry"!!! I am sharing this so that this does not happen to another Norton customer, when my Norton is set to expire I will be out shopping for a new program! PS This happened on Windows 10
My favorites orginially came from Chrome but I had added a significant amount with Norton Private Browser
I had been using Norton Browser for about one year
Support did nothing but uninstall and do a reinstall, they never backed up anything. The supervisor that I spoke to stated, "he should have unchecked a box stating delete all files before doing the uninstall", that didn't happen
The appdata files were gone also, I actually Googled a recovery myself and those files were not there
I had switched to the Norton Privacy Browser as it was offered with my subscription, I like some of the features but now have found that that was a huge mistake. They have no way to interface with the other browsers, you cannot do an export or import from another browser. Norton should stay with doing virus protection and not venture out if they don't know what they are doing??!!
I always back up everything and I should have been doing my searching on Chrome or one of the other browsers, timely lessoned learned. I am now back to Chrome and won't be switching and may be looking for a different virus protection once my subscription expires.
Thanks bjm for responding and trying to help. :>)
Where did you import your favorites from?
How long have you run Norton Private Browser?
Maybe, support ran Export bookmarks?
Maybe, support copy/pasted your User Data folder?
See if you have AppData\Local\Norton\Browser\User Data\Default\Bookmarks
See if you have AppData\Local\Norton\Browser\User Data\Default\Bookmarks.bak
Was your Norton Private Browser User Data profile removed, too?
Why are you running Norton Private Browser vs any other modern browser?
