Block or NOT block?

Can someone tell me which is the correct setting according to the screen capture photo I posted?

Should com.norton.proxy setting be allowed to accept incoming connections or block?

As you can see the top setting of com.norton.hns (whatever that is) is allowed to accept incoming connections.

Thanks in advance.

@Jimmy_Don_Skinner Hello. I’m not a MAC user but have to ask whether the VPN is functioning correctly and whether you are getting alerts for a DNS highjack attempt? If the latter isn’t the case I would leave the settings as is to prevent internet services from being disabled. May I also ask what version of Norton do you have installed and what version of your OS is running?

I’m running Sonoma 14.7.3 (2019 Intel version) and Norton 25.1.0.
I’m fairly certain I don’t have that DNS highjack attempt alert. I’m really at a loss as to why com.norton.proxy would be set to block incoming connections; if those connections would be coming from Norton?? Or is the setting implying that Norton is not allowing anything? I can go anywhere on the internet. BUT I know nothing about internet settings. thank you.

Here is what the latest AI overview gives me: Its related to using the VPN in Norton.

“com.norton.proxy” refers to the proxy server functionality within Norton security software, which acts as an intermediary between your device and the internet, allowing you to route your internet traffic through a different IP address, potentially masking your location and identity while browsing, although the primary function within Norton is usually handled by their dedicated VPN service, “Norton VPN”, which offers more robust privacy features with encryption.

Norton specifies this in their article: *In a nutshell com.norton.proxy shouldn’t be set “manually” unless you have a specific need for that as outlined in the article. My understanding is the VPN should automatically use and enable this when using its VPN services. So the settings in your screenshot as they are should be correct.

THANK YOU. I’m still undecided. because my wife’s computer, which is a NEW MacBook Air, running the latest M3 chip and Sequoia software update, allows the connections from a default setting. I tried to change mine to ‘allow’, in order to see what would happen, and it wouldn’t allow me to make changes. I clicked on the double arrow and went to ‘allow’, but then it would never do anything after I tried to click OK on the changes… but thank you for your time. I really do appreciate your time.

You’re welcome. As I said earlier the VPN sets these settings on its own automatically so you should be good with the settings as they were shown in your original screenshots.
