Block wildcard spam?

Is there anyway to configure 360's antispam to block addresses based on a wildcard?  I've been receiving LOTS of spam from eatoutspendless@... where ...is many different domains.  Naturally, 360 can block out each domain, but whoever's sending this always puts on a different domain, and it gets through the filter.

Is there anyway I can block eatoutspendless@* (I tried that, and it didn't allow it :( ).

OR, is there a way to configure anti-spam to block specific keywords in an email, and not just the address?

Hi steve76063,

You should be able to filter this by creating a rule in your email client's message rule options to send any message with that specific text directly to the trash or spam folder.

Yes, I can make a rule in Outlook, but isn't that the job of an anti-spam program?  What exactly does Norton's use to determine if something is Spam or not...I haven't been able to find that out--is this something that's not user accessable/configurable?:smileysad:

Hello steve76063

You can find some information about spam over here and what you can do to help to stop it.

Well, so far, I'm unimpressed with 360's anti-spam functionality!  I turned off Outlook's native spam blocking function, to see how Norton's would do...I got 195 emails in today, and at least 150 were spam; and Norton didn't remove them!  It did tag them with a [Norton AntiSpam] message in the subject, forcing me to make my own Outlook Rule to remove them.  I'd like to recommend something like this to my grandmother (who unfortunately has replied to previous spam, so now she gets deluged with it!).  It'd be way beyond her capabilities to build Rules, and I'm not sure Outlook Express even has rules!

Hi steve76063,

Did Norton put the tagged messages in the Norton Antispam Folder?  If the spam was left in your Inbox you need to reset the client integration options as explained in the support article below.  Norton does not delete spam messages - it does add the [Norton Antispam] tag and puts them in the Norton Antispam Folder if available, or otherwise in the client's Junk Folder.

Well, I have no 'Norton Antispam' folder:smileysurprised:  Maybe that's my problem!

I'll check out that link and see if that helps.

thanks.

Hmmmmm.

I went through the steps from the link (un-integrated Outlook with Antispam; reboot; re-integrate; started up Outlook), but still no 'Norton Antispam' folder?

I'm guessing that without that folder, Norton doesn't have a place to move the spam; which is why I still see it!

Any ideas on how to get Norton to make (and use) that folder?

The Norton 360 Version 4.0 uses new Brightmail Technology for the AntiSpam, which is entirely different from the previous products (training based spam engine). The new engine relies heavily on Symantec Spam definitions, heuristic rules, and online detection to identify spam. As you don't have any AntiSpam folder, try these steps:

• To do this, first create a folder called "Norton AntiSpam Folder".

• Then create a filter rule in your e-mail client to automatically filter e-mails containing the tag "Norton AntiSpam" in the subject header to this "Norton AntiSpam Folder".

• Periodically monitor this "Norton AntiSpam Folder" for any non-spam mails or False Positives and then delete them.

Well, a reply From Norton cleared up one thing...Norton's Antispam will create the 'Norton Antispam' folder only if there isn't already a folder named 'Junk' or in my case 'Junk E-mail'.  So, that's why I don't have the Norton folder.  One question answered.

Now, the only problem that I have is that the emails marked as spam (subject line changed to [Norton Antispam]) are still in my folders.  Norton explained that if I have rules that move mail to other manually built folders, they aren't automatically moved to the Antispam (or Junk) folder; so that's what's happening.

Almost there now...BUT, I've created a rule to move mail with the [Norton Antispam] subject to my Junk folder, only, it doesn't automatically work :smileymad:  If I run the rule manually, it works just fine, but it refuses to run automatically!  I've tried moving it before my rule that moves my normal mail, and after, but it only will work if I manually run it!

This is getting frustrating (and I've been working with computers for 30 years now!)... I thought I new how Outlook rules worked, but apparently not!  Anyone have any suggestions?
