Blocking internal website (companyweb)

Hi, I have a Windows Small Business server and it has an internal website http://companyweb.

Now this gets filtered as Uncategorised, which is fair enough, but I cannot add it to the allow list from the Settings > Web > Specific Web sites to allow screen (it gives an Invalid Web site error). I can add it using the "Allow this site" option in the Activity > Web list, but the site still gets blocked.

I have updated the house rules on the PC a number of times but it still gets blocked.

Hi dnorrishill,

Please try the following to see if it helps.

Go to Activity -> Web -> click on the website ->Select Allow this site ->click on UPDATE SETTINGS button.

Thanks,

Katie

As I mentioned in my original post I did follow the above course of action. However for the sake of clarity I did follow the advice above and it does change the color of the record in the grid from red to black; but as soon as the user tries to access the site again they get blocked and a new red record appears in the list.

Hi dnorrishill,

A Web site normally has primary domain like com, org etc. If you could configure your internal Web site with a proper web site name like "http://machinename.org", you should be able to add the valid name to the black list.

Thanks,

Katie

Unfortunately I cannot find a way to change the name, it is set by Microsoft as part of their Small Business Server.

However its not a deal breaker for me, I have set the browser to use a different home-page.

The only thing that I don't understand is that if I allow the Uncategorized category it accepts the url without blocking it.

Hi dnorrishill,

Your home page is classified as Uncategorized category (as expected).  Since you had the Uncategorized category blocked earlier,  you couldn’t visit the home page or any other Web sites that are included in the category.  By allowing the Uncategorized category, you are able to see your  home page.

Thanks,

Katie
