Sorry about registering and asking a question on the same day, but I didn't see my answer after doing a search.
I purchased Internet Security 2011 after a scare on my wife's PC. Her machine became unusable after a severe infection from malware that disguised itself as anti-virus software. Upgraded from basic AVG on my PC and was happy that the NIS 2011 CD also had a Bootable Recovery Tool incuded.
Giving the Recovery Tool a shot now on my wife's machine and was getting the results I expected (numerous infections). The concern I have is that the Tool may have stalled. It's not frozen as I can pause and un-pause the process. However, it's been sitting at the following now for a couple of hours:
Checking for: DriveCleaner
Total Items Scanned: 168,403 - I can tell it's "stalled" based on this number
Total Risks Detected: 11
The risks include the following:
SecurityEssentialFraud
Trojan.Gen
Trojan Horse
Downloader.Ertfor
W32.Harakit
Trojan.FakeAV
Downloader
Downloader.MisleadApp
Trojan.FakeAV!gen29
Trojan.Gen.2

Ouch, I know. Anyway, I was curious if it's supposed to take several hours for the "Checking For: DriveCleaner" part. I don't mind leaving this PC on (for several days even) to do this process if needed since we'll be headed out of town. This is an older, single-core PC running Windows XP and with a hard drive no larger than 80GB.
If this seems like it's hung up, should I simply try again? Would I be better off with the Power Eraser? If I use Power Eraser does that have an option to create a boot CD?
