Bootable Recovery Tool

I'm using a 3 month-old HP Envy notebook 13-d053sa running Windows 10 Home and Norton Internet Security.

I noticed this NBRT thing and decided to give it a go, so I downloaded it by clicking on the download button on the Norton web page. However, it downloaded via the Windows 10 downloader rather than the Norton downloader, and nothing followed it -- i.e. no invitation to accept and agree to terms, no installation wizard. The downloader has created a new disk partition "E" specifically for NBRT and all the folders and files are in there, but I have no idea what to do with them. Any help would be appreciated.

dtran8889:  I just downloaded the NBRT ISO file yesterday. Was that the new one 2016.1.0?

Yes, you have the new 2016.1.0

I just downloaded the NBRT ISO file yesterday. Was that the new one 2016.1.0?

I'm confused as to why Norton didn't process the download, why I have a new disc partition, and why its contents reference Linux, so I'm not at all confident about what is going on here.

appears the NBRT was updated prior to the Introduction....... Thanks

Norton did not scan/report my iso downloads. Norton does not scan/report on my msu downloads.   Maybe, Norton only reports on PE downloads.
How to use Norton Bootable Recovery Tool?

Looking for nbrt.iso I find it in the downloads folder (862Mb -- this is the file that, when I open it, takes me to the new disc partition E:/). Right click offers me the options of "mount" (which just takes me to E:/ again) and "burn disc image". There is no optical drive on this machine. Should I just go ahead and copy this file to USB memory?

FWIW ~ just downloaded NBRT.iso 860MB thru Firefox native download manager (save to desktop).
File Type is Windows Media Player - W8.1.  Head Scratch.  Have to check my defaults.
Edit... Yeah, right click file > Open with ISO Viewer > ISO Viewer > Burn to disk.
Maybe, your default is > Mount as virtual drive ?
Maybe, F is your Optical Drive

I downloaded NBRT again and just ended up with another disk partition F:/ with all the same files in it and still no indication of how to proceed. Does anybody have any idea of what might be going on here please?

A file called nbrt is present in my downloads folder (identified as a .iso disk image file 883,078 Kbytes), but when I open it, it just takes me to E: where all the new files are.

No Linux on this machine (I searched for it and found nothing).

The download ISO file should be in your normal download files, eg documents or dowmloads.

Are you also running Linux in your machine ?

Thanks for your reply F4E. The link you provided was the one I used to begin the download.

Regarding this "ISO image" thingy, the closest filenames I can find are:

E:\NBRT\boot\isolinux.bin

E:\NBRT\boot\isolinux.cfg

E:\NBRT\isolinux\isolinux.bin

E:\NBRT\isolinux\isolinux.cfg

Is the "ISO image" one of these files?

Hi, HP User. Try this link.  https://security.symantec.com/nbrt/nbrt.aspx

You can burn the recovery disk from the ISO image you download.

If that works for you, I think you can delete the details in the E partition, but I'm not sure.

Someone else more techy than me, may answer that for you !
