BSOD 10 mins after restart for Live update

Last week I was having trouble with Norton on my desktop which is a Dell with Windows Vista 64bit service pack 2. After a Live Update I restarted the computer, about 10 minutes after a sucessful boot my desktop bluescreened. It would then restart, and do the same thing(ei bluescreen after 10 minutes). I tracked the error code, 0x00000076 Process Has Locked and the file with the issue is ntoskrnl.exe. Though my own research the file affected is critcal to startup for windows. So I tried to repair my windows installation from the disk. This did not help the situation. In a last ditch effort I uninstalled Norton. That did the trick. I then reinstalled Norton and it was fine as long as I DID NOT update. Today my electricity went out, so I have to restart, and then Norton finished installing the update. The problem reared its ugly head again, and again I am uninstalling Norton. I have had Norton for the last few years and never had an issue till now.

What is the next step in getting this resolved.
