Hi. I use Norton Antivirus 2011 and would like to report a bug I see numerous times.
If I try to download malware from www (dot) malware domain list (dot) com and the file name is exe.exe my Norton acts strangely - sometimes but very often . So what happens :
1) The download is about to finish
2) Norton displays a warning from Download Insight that is is analysing a file
and then the pop-up goes away or I just see "Auto-Protect is processing threats") . A new pop-up should appear after that saying that a threat has been found but it doesn't .
Now , the problem : After that Norton no longer reports threat warnings regaring any malicious file . The file is actually deleted/detected but no warnings/pop-ups. Pop-ups from IPS do appear. No info logged in the Norton's history. Norton's process (engine) goes to CPU 50%
Solution - reboot the whole computer to restart Norton services or restart the Norton Antivirus service
or
Wait about 10-20 minutes for Norton to complete processing threats and then display all messages.
This problem happens on both clean fresh image or not so fresh one.
I am starting to think that Auto-Protect in 2011 tries to connect to the Cloud (unlike in 2010) and this takes a lot of time for it to complete.
