I have an option to renew my Norton Internet Security 2011 product for $59. I can buy it on Norton on sale for $34.99. I can buy it online at prices down to $19.99. Is there any problem in buying it at a price less than the renewal fee and just uninstalling the current version and installing the new version?
Hi garyh91355:
Buying the product is the best course of action often. The only difference is that you will need to wait until the last day or two to click renew at the bottom of the main screen and enter the activation key.
If you renew, whatever days are on your current subscription will not be lost.
Do make sure to purchase it from a reputable seller as we have seen a few instances where the product was sold cheaply after being used.
Hi garyh91355,
Welcome to the Norton Comunity.
A small clarification to what Delphinium said. You do NOT need to uninstall and reinstall NIS, just enter the new product key as explained by Delphinium.
Best wishes.
Allen
Yeah i also prefer buying instead of renew
Me too :)
I have heard that 'renewing', as well as being more expensive, can land you into the annual 'auto renew' problem that many have suffered.
I always buy a retail box at at least half of what renewing costs and just enter the new serial number the weekend before mine expires.
Proper Job !
Thanks to all who responded. I understand about waiting until 1 or 2 days before the expiration. I would think that Symantec would give the 50% discount on a new purchase to the subscription renewers as well.
Thanks,
Gary
The distributors can charge or not charge as much as they please. They can give it away as free prizes if they want. Symantec can't. That being said, however, the distributors do not keep track of your subscription days, provide free upgrades to the newest version on their websites, and they will never offer to fix any issues you might have with your subscription. Nor do they provide a very expensive forum in case you have problems.
