Hi all
My predicament is as follows, I purchased norton and installed it and started running a full scan as my computer has been running slow. Now it has been scanning “backdoor.rustock.A” for about and hour and half is this normal or could it be something more I am new to all this so I don’t really know. I would appreciate any help on the matter
Thanks

Welcome,
The length of time that that specific name displays is directly proportional to the number of files that have to be scanned. You indicate that this is the first time you have run a full scan. If you did not have another security product installed prior to installing your Norton product, or you have uninstalled the old one and used their removal tools to be sure your system is clean, it can take awhile. The more files and the more drives you have active in the system the more time it takes.
I have eight drives in my system and usually start full scans just before bed or on my way out the door heading for work if that helps you judge how long it will take your system to complete.
Keep us posted
Thank you soon as I posted it started scanning Rustock.b so it is moving In the right direction yeah I had removed the old version and I stalled the new version I bought today thank you for the advice dickevans
Glad all is well
If you run scans at least monthly they will go a bit faster.
Hi AyhanMustafa,
Once in a while, the progress indicator may stick on a particular file, even though the scan is continuing. When this happens, it is not really anything serious. However, if the scan is actually stuck on a file or is taking an exceptionally long time to run, there could be a problem. The scan for Rustock can take a minute, but it should not take an hour. If the cause of your machine running slow is malware, then the infection could be interfering with the scan. It is always best to remove an infection before installing an antivirus program. If your scan has gone for an hour or two with minimal progress, something is amiss. You might want to try scanning in Safe Mode.
