Can Ghost recover the computer without system files?

Suppose a virus corrupted system files and got backed up. Then the hard drive was reformatted and Windows reinstalled, including hundreds of updates. Could the file structure and files be recovered with the exception of Windows, say, with one click?

I'm asking because that's my situation now. Norton Ghost 15 has been backing up to an external drive, but the virus installer slipped by Norton 360 at least a couple of weeks before it was activated and in the meanwhile numerous backups occurred. After using Malwarebytes and others to purge it out of the computer SFC /scannow reported a couple corrupted files it could not repair.

Somehow, I got in the position of no longer being able to boot at all, so I did a recovery with HP's recovery manager and got Windows back up to date. It would be nice now to quickly recover the rest of the computer exactly like it was before except for the operating system. Anybody know if it can be done?
