Can I delete duplicate virscan7.dat files?

I've got a 120gb ssd that I've tried to keep only my os (Win7) on.  I noticed this evening that I only have about 10g free on this drive, so I started looking into what was consuming space.  One of the things I ran across were some files that look to be duplicated.  These are obviously virus definitions, but are both needed?  This also makes me wonder if all of the Norton files are duplicated.  A quick check seems to confirm that most if not all the files in the Norton sub-folders are duplicated.  Is this by design, or is there something I can do to correct this?
