I have 2 laptops that run Windows 7. I use both of them to watch my own dvds and to organize photos. I don't live stream or use any online photo sites. Both of my laptops are capable of accessing the Internet through Internet Explorer, but I don't use them for that purpose.
My question is, if I uninstall Internet Explorer from my Windows 7 laptops, can I still use them to work with my pictures and to watch my own dvds?
Thanks for any information you can give me with this problem.
As long as your device has WiFi disabled it cannot connect to JetPack or any other wifi hotspot. If you have other devices you want to connect to it just leave it in place for them to use.
I don't have an Ethernet cable hooked up, but will get rid of that extra thing anyway.
One more question: How do I get rid of the information about my Verizon Jetpack? Is that in Internet Options? If so, I know I can find it, but how do I get rid of it?
If not, where do I find it? And, once I do, how do I get rid of it in that location?
Sorry to be so stupid, but I want to make sure I do this right.
I was able to find the Network Adapters section following the directions. I've attached a screen shot of what I discovered. Can I assume that the thing I want to disable is named
As I said earlier, I'm not at all familiar with computers or how to get to things. When I heard that Microsoft was going to stop supporting Windows 7, I assumed that hackers could only access my laptops through the Internet so getting rid of Explorer seemed the logical solution.
I didn't know that there were Network Adapters or anything else that could be done to disable the Internet. Now I do!
I know that I'm a relic for sticking with Windows 7, but it is so user friendly!
I just bought a new laptop that has Windows 10 and I absolutely HATE IT! Garbage, garbage and more garbage that I don't need and all those Apps...in my mind, the program is geared to the 20-30 crowd of which I am definitely not one! Everything is hidden and hard to get to. No media program. Talking Cordana (or whatever it's name is)...annoying doesn't even start to cover that! But, all of that is my problem.
Thank you, again, for your information! You're the best!
It's been a while since I've used Win7, but this should do the trick:
Press the Windows key on your keyboard and in the Search box, search for Device Manager. Open Device Manager and look for "Network Adapters". Open Network Adapters and look for your wireless or WiFi adapter and highlight it. Now right click it and on the menu that appears click "Disable Device".
Microsoft is going to stop supporting Windows 7 on January 14th. I don't want my laptops to be vulnerable to hacking. So, I'd like to remove Internet Explorer from the laptops so there's no chance that they could connect to the Internet.
But, I'd still like to be able to use them to work with my pictures and to watch my own dvds.
That's why I want to get rid of Internet Explorer.
I did use them for Internet work...banking, purchasing online, etc. at one time so I'm sure there's a lot of personal information hidden somewhere that someone might be able to exploit.
