can I disable avlaunch.exe? Something is stalling my PC at startup making me wait like 5 minutes. I’ve noticed avlaunch as a startup process. I looked it up and it keeps turning up as an Avast antivirus process. In any case, I am unable to disable it normally. What can I do?
Product & version number:
OS details: Win 11
What is the error message you are seeing? None
If you have any supporting screenshots, please add them:
Yeah, avlaunch.exe is part of Avast. If you’re using Norton now, you can uninstall Avast completely to stop it from running. Having two antiviruses can slow things down anyway.
Norton was owned by the Symantec group a few years ago and is now owned by the Gen Digital group, just like the Avast brand.
Between versions 22 and 24 (and later) of the Norton range, many changes were made to the products. Some Symantec modules were replaced by Gen Digital brand modules.
Current Norton products may also rely on certain Avast modules. I don’t know if this is specifically the case with avlaunch.exe, but contrary to the advice previously given (sorry @kevinpierce !), for obvious security reasons, I would definitely not uninstall, disable or stop for running this process !
Cheers
All: I’m not even sure that disabling tamper protection in Norton will allow setting the avlaunch.exe process to a disabled status in Windows services. An older post here on the forums from March says this process can be prevented from starting with Windows via the task manager. It also states that Norton as a whole WILL NOT start with Windows and leave you unprotected:
Conversely, the OP states they are running Windows 11 and have not stated whether they are running in S mode, running on an ARM processor, or running a Windows Insider build. We also don’t know the version and build of said Windows install. Knowing that information will help with a solution.
